Timber Glow XUV™
Timber Glow XUV™ is a new generation, transparent water-based coating, based on
pure 100% acrylic resins.
It is formulated to level and flow well and give exterior durability in shaded areas as a clear, un-pigmented coating.
Designed for both interior and exterior use and ideal for timber application
(e.g. timber furniture, trim, doors, cedar linings, frames and other uses where matching
surfaces are close on each other and out off direct sun light).
This versatile product is water clear and imparts no colour change or loss of definition of the grain characteristics of
your timber,
The superior waterproofing characteristics of the material provide a highly durable and long lasting finish that you’ll enjoy for years to come.
Timber Glow XUV™ is comparatively soft and forgiving to the movement of the timber coated with it.
Timber Glow XUV is for shaded areas, cedar linings, internal timber.
Not for full sun exposure.
For best results adhere to the following simple guidelines! Before applications timber should be clean and the surface dry; any stains, stencils or
other marks should be removed, as these would otherwise be ‘locked in’ under the transparent coating finish.
Nail holes should be filled with acrylic timber putty of the appropriate colour that should be allowed to dry and sanded prior
to the first coating application.
Timber which has been previously oiled with linseed should either be allowed to age prior the application of Timber Glow XUV™
system, or thoroughly washed with organic solvent to ensure proper bonding.
DESCRIPTION
XUV is a transparent water based coating, based on acrylic urethane blended binders It is formulated to level and flow well and give medium exterior
durability as a clear, un-pigmented coating for un expossed surfaces.
PURPOSE
XUV is ideal for exterior and interior timber, e.g. timber furniture, trim, doors, frames. linings and other uses where matching surfaces close on each other.
The product is practically water clear and imparts little colour change or loss of definition of grain characteristics of timber
The superior waterproofing characteristics of the material. provide a durable and long lasting finish.
The product is medium hard and forgiving of some movement of timber coated with it.
SURFACE PREPERATION
Timber should be clean and surface dry; any stains, stencils or other marks should be removed as these would otherwise be "locked in" under the transparent
coating finish.
Timber which has been previously oiled with linseed should either be allowed to age prior the the application of XUV system, or thoroughly washed
with organic solvent to ensure proper bonding.
APPLICATION
The ideal system comprises, one coat of Huecoat Timber Seal followed by two or more coats of XUV finish coat, with light sanding between coats.
The first application (primer) on sawn Western Red cedar and similar rough timbers may be thinned with water to a suitable degree to allow ease of application on the
porous timber.
For use on fine grained dressed timbers, thinning should be to a maximum of 10% as required.
The first and second coats of top coat material may be applied without thinning although some thinning is generally desirable using clean potable water, up to a
maximum of 10% - 15%
.Do not apply thickly, nor overwork and use a good quality paint brush, roller or spray. Quickly lay off to a thin uniform coat, especially when using roller application. Ensure that no thick patches, bubbles or runs of material are left behind, as these may dry to an unsightly appearance.
Transparent coatings are generally less forgiving of poor application than opaque paints
The product is designed to spread well and excellent coverage rates are achievable but being an exterior product, too little coating thickness can
result in poor performance.
For good protection be sure to finish with no less than a combined total amounting to 6 - 8 m2/L, and always bear in mind that several thin coats are preferably to fewer thick coats.
COVERAGE
Depending on porosity of timber the following can be considered as guides:-
Dressed hardwoods:
Primer (Timber Seal) 10 - 16m /Litre
Top coat 10 - 16m /Litre
Sawn timber:
Primer 6 - 14 m /Litre
Top coat 8 - 12 m /Litre
Drying Time
Touch dry within half hour, recoat no less than two hours depending on temperature and other weather conditions.
Cleanup
Clean all equipment with water immediately after use to prevent solidification of material particularly in application equipment.
