PRODUCT INFORMATION SHEET
DESCRIPTION:
RUST OFF – Rust & Scale Remover is a concentrated phosphoric acid cleaner for the effective removal of rust deposits
from iron and steel.
A liquid with a phosphoric acid base, RUST OFF contains a synthetic detergent which easily penetrates oxide deposits,
oily films and carbon smut on metal surfaces. After treatment it leaves a light phosphate film – ideal for painting.
FEATURES AND BENEFITS:
• Fast, thorough removal of rust
• Easily diluted – liquid. Removes light soils
• Ideal for subsequent treatment – e.g. Painting
• Concentrated – economical– easy to handle, store and transport
TECHNICAL INFORMATION:
Appearance Orange Liquid
Odour Acidic
pH 0-0.1.0
Specific Gravity 1.158
Solubility in Water Completely soluble
USE:
Ferrous metals: For tank dipping use 1:4 parts water. Room temperature is satisfactory, however, heating up to 60ºC will
speed the action. Immerse work for sufficient time to remove all rust (normally from 2-20 minutes). Rinse with clean water
and dry thoroughly before painting.
Hand Wiping: Mix 1: 3 or 4 parts water. Brush or wipe over surface to be cleaned. Allow to soak for 2-20 minutes, rinse
with clean water and dry thoroughly before painting.
Aluminium & Galvanised Iron: Mix 1:8 or 10 parts water. Apply as directed for hand wiping.
WARNING: As RUST OFF tends to etch aluminium, zinc or diecast alloys, it should NOT be used where some attack on
these metals cannot be permitted. However, when cleaning the oxide layer from aluminium prior to painting, light etching
is actually an advantage as it improves the bonding of the paint.
SAFETY: Hazardous according to criteria of Worksafe Australia
First Aid
Eyes: If splashed in eyes flush with water for 15 minutes. Seek medical advice.
Skin: Wash affected area with soap and water.
Inhalation: If mists are inhaled, remove patient to fresh air. Seek medical advice.
Swallowed: Do not induce vomiting; give milk or water to dilute. Seek medical advice.
